In this episode, Certified Sex Therapist, Michelle Fischler finally tells the world about her eureka moment during the Covid pandemic where as per usual sex and relationships were on her brain. She shares her unconventional but amusing idea for a great dating spot: The Home Depot. Despite the challenges of finding places, Home Depot's plant section could have been a perfect location for a low-pressure and interesting date. Maybe it still is? Envision grabbing a coffee, walking through the aisles, and maybe even exchanging flirty glances while exploring the store. It's a humorous take on dating in unconventional places, with Michelle playfully suggesting that Home Depot could also become the next go-to spot to find handsome masculine types.

[00:00:00] [THEME SONG]
Michelle [00:00:09] Hi everyone. I've been thinking a lot about dating because I get a lot of questions from people about dating. Either worries about it or how to do it right, or how to know if the person's a good match for you. And it made me think about a couple of years ago when we were going through Covid. One of the biggest thoughts that I had was "I wonder where people are going on dates?". Because, I don't know, nothing was really open for all the people that weren't in relationships, and who also weren't ready to put their dating life on hold.
[00:00:55] I know people were dating because I was working with people who were dating apps. And actually, funny enough, there was a lot of shame. It was hard for people to tell me as a therapist during covid that they were going on a date, there was a fear that I was going to reprimand them or judge them about being safe and trying to not get covid or to give it to other people.
[00:01:24] And in the end, I think, obviously I don't want anybody to get sick, but I'm also very much aware that sex never stops. Sexuality doesn't stop, right? People want to feel connection with other people, and so I felt privileged to be able to be that space where people could talk about going on dates and what it was like and if they had sex or not, and what it was like to be near somebody after being isolated for such a long time. I digress.
[00:02:04] I wanna get back to what I was gonna talk about because I came up with what I think is the best dating spot ever. Are you ready?
[00:02:15] Home Depot! Okay, because I remember during covid when the plant area opened up at Home Depot. It brought me so much excitement. I was there all of the time. My frigging garden looked amazing. I had lovely flowers out front all of the time because you have to go there and get something and yes, sometimes it was tools, but I was always drawn to the plant section. And they used to have, in the one that I'm talking about, they used to have a Burger King or something and I thought, "this is like a weird, a really weird place to have a Burger King". But during Covid I was like, "they should have a frigging cafe or like a small cafe where you can get yourself a coffee. And then you can take that coffee with you and walk around and the carts should have a place where you can put your coffee."
[00:03:24] What a perfect date idea, because it's not like you have to sit across from each other and have nowhere to go. Instead, it's nice to meet somebody new where the pressure is a bit low, and maybe you're walking side by side and there's lots of different things to talk about. Even "What's her favorite aisle?"
[00:03:49] I don't know. Yeah. You can go through the aisles, have some chitchat, maybe be able to get a couple glances of eye contact with each other, see if the chemistry, if the vibe is there, and then end up, at the flower section. That's certainly where I would end up, and then buy whatever. I don't know.
[00:04:12] Maybe you don't buy anything, you just have your coffees and then you can say goodbye. Or I guess if it feels like a good match, depending on where your Home Depot is, maybe there's a restaurant nearby or a cafe or. I don't know, a motel, [LAUGHTER] just joking. But yeah, if you are into masculine type of people, Home Depot is where you want to go.
[00:04:50] That's all I have to say. But if you ever go to Home Depot, like during the week, when people are picking up all of their supplies, it's definitely easy on the eyes. Anyways, that's enough for me. You'll probably never look at Home Depot the same again, but if anyone works at Home Depot or maybe you own Home Depot.
[00:05:23] Get a cafe, seriously. Oh, and sponsor my show cuz I will totally tell people to go to Home Depot. Okay. Bye everyone.
